Hi, I'm James Wang

I'm a second year college student, coder, photographer, and table tennis hobbyist. Currently, I'm a part-time Digital Technology Intern at General Electric Digital, but I'm also a college student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Neuroscience and Computer Science are my cpassion, but presently, I'm focusing on my passion to be a software engineer.

This website was the partial result of my inital passions. When I was younger, I was afraid of the different. After my junior year of high school, I changed my mentality completey. I had a *bug* to improve myself in every facet. Since then, I've accepted the chaos that naturally occurs with exploring the different; In fact, I'm avidly searching for it. This is a website for documenting that journey.

As apart of the Service Fabric Team in One Drive Sharepoint, I created a disaster recovery readiness dashboard, displaying datacenters, clusters and databases along with metrics to establish current readiness level. Our goal was to decrease the time On Call Engineers(OCEs) needed to determine the readiness to failover these dimensions so that One Drive Consumer can have greater reliability

GE

General Electric Digital

Digital Technology and SRE Intern From May 2018 to January 2019

As apart of the Monitoring Team for Coretech Digital, I created a management system to assist BI analysis of monitor metadata and control usage. Working with New Relic and Sikuli monitoring, I developed a silencing system, allowing maintenance periods to be synonymous with our new in-house management system. I established a framework for future improvements such as Internal Self self-service portal, monitoring, and reporting.

I created automation for disabling invalid and failing monitors as a cost saving effort (one quarter savings of 100K with continued savings).

The Junior Table Tennis Foundation is a non-profit table tennis that I led between 2014 to 2017. As president, I create events and tournaments for charity. As a non-profit, the organization under my lead has raised over $2000, and has donated to Relay for Life and the Police Athletic League. We also take time to give children without table tennis exposure to experience the chance to play through created events. We've had two throughout the year, and at the same time, we donated to them, PAL, a table for continual exposure. I've been in charge of finding sponsors, venues, and organizations to help, and the organization has increased its participation from contributors every year.

In Search Of the Horizon

Horizons S18 Hackathon: A social media mobile application that allows users in similar programs to find each while in similar vicinities.

Inspiration

Horizons has been spitting out successful Horizonites for several years now. Some ended up in random cities, but most exist as clusters in cities such as SF, NYC, Seattle, etc. Because connections are arguably one of the most valuable ROI's of the program, it is important to keep tabs on fellow Horizonites- especially ones nearby. In Search of the Horizon makes certain each Horizonite is aware of the Horizon community that surrounds them every single day.

COMMUNITY

The Junior Classical League encourages the appreication of the classics from the language with Caesar to the battles in Greek Mythology. The JCL has cultivated a new family for me that invigorates competition and brotherhood.

Though I was presdient of a chapter, my greatest benefits have been from the people I met and other hobbies I've picked up. Some of my closest friends come from the program, and my budding passion in photography came from the other many photographers at the events.

SPORTS

Table Tennis has followed me since I was 10 years old. The competitive sport is often misunderstood in the society we live in today, but it has not stopped my passion for the sport.

Achievements

  • Current Rating: 2167; Highest Rating: 2234

PRODUCTIVITY

I've always been interested in the human brain. The idea that a machine could learn how to eventually "learn" fascinates me. I'm taking Andrew Ng's Coursera Course, and I'm currently on Week 3.

Currently, I'm being mentored by a friend,Christine Liu. Under her mentorship, I will hopefully improve my ability and participate in budding projects.

PRODUCTVITY

Previously, I studied the basics behind Neuroscience for the Atlanta Regional Brain Bee. The annual competition inspired me to learn about the nuances behind our personality, addictions, and decisions. It also helped me create my current internship/volunteer opportunity at Emory University in Dr.Jaeger's Lab.

SPORTS

My mom has always told me that I've been in the pool since I was a half years old. Swimming has always been a hobby for me since I stopped competitive swimming. It's a great way for me to not only improve my health but also leave the normal lifestyle I live in. Dynamo swimclub was the original olympic swim school that I started in, and now, have taught in.
